The duties of the Archbishop of Cantebury also include the anointing and coronation of the new king. The last solemn ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey in London in 1953, when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned

The Anglican Church is also called the Episcopal Church because it greatly values the office of bishop. This is due to the long historical tradition of the office, ever since the time of the undivided church.

Since the 1990s, it has been possible to ordain women and men as priests and bishops.

Archbishop Justin Welby of Cantebury

 

The Archbishop of Cantebury is  Supreme Spiritual Leader of the Anglican Church. The next on the scale of him is the Archbishop of York.

 

Anglican churches around the world send their representatives to the Lambeth Conference, which meets every ten years. The conference will be chaired by the Archbishop of Cantebury
